Sexual Function – Erectile Dysfunction / Impotence
The sexual sphere is a very complex function of the body in which different organs and diverse mechanisms are involved and interact. We conduct a global approach to the problem by studying each of the components involved in sexuality. This allows us to provide comprehensive treatment to achieve a complete recovery and, in many cases, definitive.
My sex life is unsatisfactory. Have I got a problem?
Yes. A satisfying sex life is very important for a good quality of life and good health in general. Usually there are several factors that influence the deterioration of sex life, so we like to approach these situations from a global perspective, analyzing the relationship, environment, expectations, etc, in order to give a comprehensive treatment of the problem.
I have a bad quality erection. Is that normal for my age?No. Erection problems, called erectile dysfunction, are always a health problem and therefore, should be studied and treated. There is no age at which it is normal to lose potency.
It does not seem like a major problem, right?Apart from a satisfying sex life being one of the most important factors for a good quality of life and good general health, the presence of erectile dysfunction could be an indicator of major health problems such as hormonal disorders, vascular or nervous system diseases, which if not corrected, could have serious consequences. Therefore, it is recommended to study any male erectile dysfunction.
Are there treatments for erectile dysfunction?Yes. We currently have various treatments that solve over 95% of the cases with erection problems and that allow men to again enjoy a satisfying sex life.
What is the treatment for erectile dysfunction? It depends. The treatment of erectile dysfunction must be personalized, because not all treatments work for all cases; there is no universal treatment. It is therefore important that an appropriate preliminary study is done to determine the causes and thus assess the best solution for each particular patient.
What are the treatments available for erectile dysfunction? We have different treatments currently available: oral tablets, gels applied on the penis, injections, psychological techniques, sex therapy, vacuum pumps, penile prosthesis surgery, ultrasound therapy… No one treatment is better than the other; each patient will require a personalized treatment.

It is one of the possible treatments for erectile dysfunction. Through surgery with regional anesthesia, we implant a mechanism to recover erections.

Those men with difficulty in controlling ejaculation, representing to them and/or to the couple an unsatisfactory sex life, even with associated anxiety, may experience a condition called premature ejaculation.
What is the cause of premature ejaculation? The cause is varied and in most cases several factors are involved. Sometimes this problem has always been present and sometimes it appears in men who previously had an adequate control of ejaculation.
Can it be solved? Which is the best treatment?Yes, this problem can be solved. The best treatment is the one that attacks the cause, so we must first conduct an adequate study and, depending on the results, prescribe the best treatment. In most cases a combination of drug therapy associated with psychological and/or sexology techniques might be required.
I have lost the desire. Is that normal for my age?No. The loss of sexual desire is always a health problem.
What is the cause of the loss of desire? It is often complex. There might be hormonal, psychological, or neurological factors involved.
Can it be treated?Yes. In most cases, after carrying out a proper and thorough study, we find out the cause or causes of the problem and, therefore, may give an effective targeted treatment.
I’ve heard of male menopause. Does it exist?Yes. Its medical name is late-onset hypogonadism or partial androgen deficiency of the aging male (PADAM) and consists of a deficiency in the production of testosterone, the male sex hormone, causing symptoms and a health problem.
Is it a normal process of aging or should it be treated? It is not a normal process of aging, like when it occurs in women. It is a health problem that has significant implications, not only in the sexual sphere but also it may cause obesity, diabetes, osteoporosis, loss of muscle strength, changes in mood, increase in the chances of dying from a heart attack, etc.
Can it be treated?Yes. With the proper treatment, the hypogonadism can be remedied, allowing men to recover the normal hormonal function and, therefore, improve their overall health.
What is the orgasm?Orgasm is the climax or the moment of greatest pleasure of sexual arousal, usually after stimulation of the genitals. It is not the same as the ejaculation (emission of semen), because although usually associated whit it, ejaculation might be present without orgasm and orgasm without ejaculation.
What alterations can happen with the orgasm? There are certain problems that can cause, in both men and women, difficulty or even impossibility to achieve orgasm (called anorgasmia). The opposite problem is to reach climax with daily activities without any prior sexual arousal, which may impede carrying on a normal life (driving, working…)
What is the cause? Can it be treated? The cause is very diverse. It might be due to side effects of medication, psychological blocks, alterations in mood, improper sexual techniques, relationship problems,… With proper study we may find out the cause. The treatment depends on the cause but it might be necessary to combine medication with psycho-sexual therapy.
